「Have you ever been here before?」
「No, it’s also my first time to come here.」

Fall 2025 NTU CoM Exchange Student One-Day Culture Trip
「Have you ever been here before?」
「No, it’s also my first time to come here.」
It was my first visit to the National Center for Traditional Arts in Yilan, and sharing this “first-time” experience with a group of international students made it even more special.
Under the blazing midday sun, three buses carried three tour guides and more than twenty buddies as we set off for the center. During the hour-long ride, the guides introduced Yilan’s features and the day’s schedule, gradually warming up the atmosphere inside the bus.
Upon arrival, everyone was given a voucher to join the DIY activity. The guides then led us on a tour of the park, not only explaining Taiwan’s temple culture in detail but also guiding us to watch a captivating performance inspired by mythological stories. When the guided tour ended, it was time for free exploration: some students went to restaurants for lunch, others joined an indigo-dyeing workshop, while some followed their buddies to try bubble tea and browse old-style grocery shops.
On the way back, the golden sunset cast its glow across rolling hills, endless rice fields, and long straight roads—a vivid contrast to Taipei’s fast-paced rhythm. This scenery revealed to the exchange students a very different side of Taiwan, helping them appreciate the country’s diverse beauty.
More than just a day trip, this experience strengthened the bonds among exchange students, between exchange students and their buddies, and even among the buddies themselves. More importantly, it sparked the exchange students’ curiosity to explore more of Taiwan’s culture and landscapes, adding an unforgettable page to their exchange journey.
