Stepping into its 20th anniversary, the GMBA program proudly welcomed the R14 freshmen during the GMBA Orientation on August 24. The event was designed to introduce students to the program’s values, resources, and community, setting an inspiring tone for their upcoming journey.

This year’s incoming class is one of the largest yet, with 72 new students, 66 of whom joined the orientation. The day began with a lively ice-breaking and team-building session through an engaging drumming activity. With energy lifted by the drumbeats, Professor Leon then led a case study workshop. As case studies are a cornerstone of the GMBA learning experience, this session highlighted how students can bridge academic theories with real-world practice.

The event was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including Dean Chialin Chen, Director Bryan Jean, Professor Leon, and Professor Huang. In the afternoon, Dean Chen—who previously served as GMBA Director from 2016 to 2019—delivered an inspiring keynote. Returning in his current role as Dean, he shared his personal connection with the program and encouraged students to seize every opportunity to develop their skills and expand their networks.

Director Bryan Jean provided an overview of the curriculum, emphasizing its diverse courses and experiential learning opportunities. He underscored the program’s dedication to fostering a global perspective and cultivating practical skills essential for future business leaders. Meanwhile, Professor Huang, who leads the Industry Mentorship Program (IMP), outlined the mentorship and internship opportunities available, urging students to take full advantage of GMBA’s extensive industry connections.

To further enrich students’ understanding of the program, a spirited Kahoot! quiz with over 30 questions—ranging from academic policies to student benefits—was held. This was followed by an Open Space Session, where six clubs (GMBA Alumni Association, Student Council, J-MBA, Golf Club, Badminton Club, and Basketball Team) introduced themselves. Alumni and student representatives shared their experiences, embodying Dean Chen’s vision of “Work hard, play hard, study hard.” The session created valuable opportunities for freshmen to connect with current students and alumni, strengthening the sense of community.

The orientation concluded on a high note, marking the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the R14 GMBA cohort. With the support of this vibrant community, students are well-prepared to pursue their personal and professional goals. The program looks forward to watching these future leaders thrive and make an impact on the global business landscape.
