On Sunday, August 30, 2026, the National Taiwan University (NTU) Global MBA (GMBA) Program officially welcomed its newest cohort at the College of Management’s Multi-Functional Activity Center. The day’s events were carefully curated to foster connections, introduce academic expectations, and build a strong sense of community among the incoming students.

The orientation kicked off with an engaging ice-breaking and team-building activity centered around African Djembe drumming. This rhythmic exercise encouraged students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives to harmonize their differences, demonstrating that collaborative efforts yield richer, more dynamic outcomes. Following the activity, GMBA Director Bryan Jean provided a comprehensive introduction to the program, familiarizing students with its core curriculum and foundational values. To further illustrate the GMBA’s strong ties to the business world, Professor Chin-Yuan Huang then took the stage to discuss the Industry Mentorship Program (IMP).

After a hearty lunch, Dean Chialin Chen delivered his welcome remarks. Dean Chen holds a deep, enduring connection to the GMBA community; in addition to his role as Dean, he served as the GMBA Director from 2016 to 2019 and continues to actively engage with students as the instructor for the SOM course. Transitioning into the program’s academic rigor, the cohort then participated in a collaborative case study led by Prof Leon van Jaarsveldt. Each student was assigned a specific role via a cue card, challenging them to navigate a complex scenario and develop integrated solutions as a team. The energy remained high during a lively game of Kahoot!, which featured tailored questions designed to help the new cohort better understand the university and smoothly transition into campus life.

Because networking is a cornerstone of the MBA experience, the orientation also featured an “Open Space” session highlighting various student organizations. Representatives from the GMBA Student Council, the GMBA Alumni Association, JMBA, and the Golf, Badminton, and Basketball clubs introduced their groups, offering new students excellent avenues to pursue shared interests and enrich their extracurricular lives. The day concluded with a thoughtful “Time Capsule” exercise. Reflecting on their personal motivations for pursuing an MBA and their professional aspirations, students wrote letters to their future selves, which will be returned to them upon graduation in two years.
